Maim Not the Brute Beasts...

I've been in Sydney with my father, where I've been formulating my 2008 plans. This morning I return to Perth, Western Australia.

Yesterday whilst cooking lunch I inadvertently swatted and dispatched a fly in the kitchen. This may not exactly raise eyebrows; modern society has muddled and hypocritical opinions on killing animals. A case in point is the recent so-called 'mercy' killing by the RSPCA of a temple cow at Bhaktivedanta Manor in England, which has raised a huge 'gefuffle'.

But all life is sacred. I found this nice quotation:

sparrow:

"Maim not the brute beasts. Whoever is kind to the lesser creatures is kind to himself. He who takes pity (even) on a sparrow and spares its life, Allah will be merciful on him on the day of judgement."
-Prophet Mohammed

I apologised to the fly, and laid him to rest in the garden.
