Are You a Real Woman?

Received this in the mail today:

LADIES - If you accidentally over-salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant "fix-me-up."

REAL WOMEN - If you over-salt a dish while you are cooking, that's too damn bad. Please recite with me, The Real Women's motto: "I made it and you will eat it and I don't care how bad it tastes."

Forget real women, I prefer a lady anytime.

Hong Kong Happenings

I've just been cleaning up my desk and found some photos from last November of my culinary tour of Hong Kong. Thought I might share some with you. They're high resolution so excuse any delays.

This is our crew for the 3-day cookery classes in Kowloon. It was held in a 6th floor Temple on Chatham Road.

Kurma and the crew in Hong Kong:

The enthusiasm of the students, mainly Hong Kong housewives, was truly awesome. These ladies are very serious about cooking and eating.

Cooking it up in Hong Kong:

I was invited to cook a dinner for the Hong Kong Boy Scout Association, Hong Kong Island Region. They loved it! Here we pose for a group shot after the meal.

Hong Kong Boy Scout Association:

I took some time out for a bit of sight-seeing. Here I'm on top of a mountain on Lantau Island.

Lantau Island:

Hope you like them. I think I've inherited my Father's tendency for putting on slide-show presentations.

You, there in the back row! Wake up!

Back in Freezing-cold Perth

I'm back in my home base in Perth, Western Australia, but not for long. No sooner than I unpack will I have to pack again. This Saturday I'm heading for sunny Europe. Well I hope it's sunny! It's 8 degrees in my office right now and I'm dressed like the Abominable Snowman would if he were to wear clothes (I presume he doesn't).

My son Caitanya has been faring fairly well on his own here, although he's not the neatest, cleanest teenager around. I left him ingredients and recipes for basic survival fare. He's still alive, so I guess he's been eating.

This is Caitanya, aged 19.

Caitanya:

And while we're at it, here's a picture of my son Nitai, aged 8, currently in Peru. He's peeping out from an Incan wall in Machu Picchu.

Nitai in Machu Picchu:

I'm sending out recipes and shopping lists to all my hosts in Belgium, England, Ireland and Wales today. You work up quite an appetite doing that, you know. It's 2.30 in the morning so I predict I'll be ready for a hearty breakfast. But there's no ingredients for much other than a cooked-from-scratch warm cereal of some sort.

I joked with someone yesterday that when I run out of things to say on this blog I'll probably be telling you all what I had for breakfast...well I guess everyday can't be an adventure. Back to the shopping lists, and I'll speak with you all tomorrow.
