I'm in Tweed Heads, northern New South Wales, staying with an old friend Brihaspati. Brihas was the manager of Gopal's Restaurant in Malvern Road, Prahran (Melbourne) back in 1979 when I was cooking there. It was he who suggested, cajoled and finally talked me into teaching my first cookery classes there in the winter of 1980. A total of eighty persons enroled in the 6-week course, paying a grand fee of $10 for the whole course.
Were it not for Brihas there would be no Cooking with Kurma. I am eternally indebted to him for his wise counsel.
