Second article from Hari Sauri on Prabhupada's 1975 visit to Melbourne...
Here's the last of my unpublished pics. (unless I find some more!) from Melbourne 1975. Srila Prabhupada came in mid-May and installed what were then the largest brass Deities in ISKCON and in fact, the largest brass Deities ever cast in Bengal--Sri Sri Nitai Gaura. It was a brilliant event because along with Their Lordships' appearance, ISKCON Australia also revealed to the world its new headquarters at 197 Danks St. Albert Park. A beautiful 2 acre property that started off as a stately home, became a Christian Brother's college and then a Heritage-listed monument, and finally a Hare Krishna temple.
The first of a couple of nice articles by Hari Sauri regarding
Prabhupada's visits to Melbourne...

In 1973 Srila Prabhupada
had promised to attend the Melbourne Rathayatra. We had built two new
rathas, but the main factor in attracting him to come was the
prominence of the small Australian yatra in the book distribution
listings. Inspired by Buddhimanta prabhu, the Australians were
leading the world in their attempts to spread
Krsna consciousness and Srila Prabhupada therefore promised to attend
the 1973 Rathayatra. Unfortunately he got sick in India and had to
cancel.
He flew into Melbourne on June 25 1974 for his fourth trip to Australia with his secretary Satsvarupa Das Goswami. This time he only visited Melbourne whereas for his first three trips he had visited Sydney as well.
The Rathayatra on June 29 was glorious and Srila Prabhupada, after joining up with the rathas in the main city square, walked the whole route, terminating at the Royal Exhibition Gardens.
When I put on the hat sent by you on my head, everyone says that it is brilliant, and because one has to dress according to the taste of friends this hat has become an important factor of my dressing.
Some interesting answers to some interesting questions. From Srila Prabhupada via Hari Sauri's blog...
Q15) Does Tulasi sleep? Should she be left undisturbed after nightfall? A: Undisturbed means what?
Q16) Is it permissible to use scissors to cut her manjaris and when transplanting, to use knives to loosen her from her pot? A: Use common sense and if you have none, then consult with others.
Our method of prioritisation according to Srila Prabhupada. A response to Kirtanananda...
So far as your question about arranging time, our first business is to regularly complete our chanting 16 rounds each day. Then we must offer to the deities mangal arati in the morning, and the other paraphernalia and activities shall be executed as time permits. If there is no time then we must disregard.
I found this statement amusing when I read it this morning. As Prabhupada's followers we sometimes endure more austerity than we would have ordinarily encountered in the ordinary course of our lives, yet we wouldn't give it up for all the money in the world...
If your parents don't treat very well & want to make your life miserable, then you shall live with me. At least I shall not make your life miserable even though I am not as rich as your parents.
Toleration of difficulties, an essential element of Krsna consciousness...
Sometimes in spite of our full Krishna Consciousness we fall a victim to maya but that is temporary just as seasonal changes such calamities do come & pass away & we have to endure them.
Program for enthusiasm...
There must be regularly classes and reading books, chanting 16 rounds, going for kirtana, like that. This is our programme for enthusiasm, if you do not follow it, what can I do?
I'm subscribed to the RSS feed which brings you quotes from Prabhupada's letters. I especially liked this one from the 22nd September 1972... Now concentrate your efforts by bringing our regular program up to the highest standards, that is, holding street sankirtana, holding at regular times of the day very opulent aratrika with prasadam distribution, having classes in philosophy, chanting sixteen rounds, etc. This is our strength.
If you practice these things now with full concentration and carry on the regular propaganda work, automatically people will come forward for helping and you will make also devotees there. That is our Krsna Consciousness process of regular program.
Here's an opportunity to show our appreciation for Srila Prabhupada. Once again, we are offering a Vyasa-puja book to Srila
Prabhupada on his auspicious Appearance Day. This is a wonderful opportunity
to meditate upon our relationship with Srila Prabhupada and all that he has
given us.
All homages must be submitted no later than the 4th of August.

I recommend this site to anyone. This article written by Kripamoya Prabhu is a very clear and concise analysis of the Rtvik doctrine...
It is not a fact that Srila Prabhupada did not want anyone to take disciples or to become the next in the parampara succession. Quite the opposite -- and for obvious reasons. He told several of his disciples that this was the traditional process and that they must have even more disciples than he himself. At the Bhaktivedanta Manor in 1973 he told every devotee sitting in the temple room that he was 12th in the succession coming from Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and that: ‘…all of you are the 13th.'
