ISKCON was founded in 1966 by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in New York. ISKCON is part of the Gaudiya Vaisnava tradition, a devotional tradition based on Bhagavad-gita and other timeless Vedic scriptures. The teachings of the Gaudiya Vaisnava tradition are passed down through disciplic succession, the original teacher being Lord Krishna Himself.
In 1486, Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, considered non-different from Lord Krishna, appeared in India. He spread the teachings of the Gaudiya Vaisnava tradition throughout India. Now the same teachings are being spread by ISKCON throughout the modern world.
