FOLK News
I just had a quick Skype text chat with Devamrta Swami. He is currently in London resting at Vikash and Sheetal's place. In his own words, he said, "Well, I'm still in this world--just a bit wobbly."
He plans to prepare a post for his webpage to "end any speculation". It appears he suffered a delayed reaction to the whiplash injury incurred whilst in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. Dislocation of the neck restricted the flow of oxygen to the brain.
It didn't catch up with him till he was in Russia which was after he had been travelling in Germany with Candidasa. That explains why we were puzzled by news of his poor health but were at the same time seeing pictures of him (apparently healthy) in Germany. It didn't help that the reporting of events was some time after the fact. Not that it was Candidasa's fault, mind you.
It was good to hear from him and his plans to keep travelling. He'll be resting at stages in between hops.
The Monk got married. He manages a temple in Australia and talks about the path of Krishna consciousness.
Here's the latest from Indradyumna Swami as promised. Thanks to Sita-pati Prabhu.
Each day, before downloading my email, I mentally prepare myself for dealing with the good, the bad, and the ugly. With hundreds of disciples and many other devotees regularly corresponding with me, the laws of nature force me to see the gamut of situations in this world.
On 25 April, in the wake of a regional court ruling last year, court executors - backed by OMON special police - bulldozed five Hare Krishna-owned dachas at their commune on the outskirts of Kazakhstan's commercial capital Almaty. Rati Mandzhari (Yekaterina Levitskaya) of the Hare Krishna community complained to Forum 18 News Service that officials gave less than the required five days notice of the demolition. But an official defended the demolitions, claiming that it was all "perfectly legal". The Hare Krishna community believes the authorities have been trying to destroy the commune since the community bought a farm in 1999 and then bought nearby dachas. Last month a court ordered the farm to be confiscated with no compensation and a district court has ruled that five more Hare Krishna-owned dachas are to be confiscated. Only Hare Krishna-owned dachas have been targeted for confiscation and destruction.
Dear All,
Hare Krishna !!
Thank you all for assisting us in this struggle.
The human rights of Kazakhstani citizens is being violated by these actions of the Kazakh government.
There is no question of a proper court decision, because all of the decisions are ordered.
What have we done that the court will order demolition of individuals homes, to tear down peoples residences?
If something has wrongly been done, let them fine us, but to destroy peoples homes because of their religious beliefs is unheard of.
It is beyond any perspective of reality.
Please continue to call the Kazakhstan Embassy in your countries. If you can, arrange meetings and speak to the ambassador. If that fails please organise hari nama protests in the front of Kazakh Embassies in your nations.
Thank you, may Krishna bless you all, Please keep up the fight with us.
With affectionate regards,
BB Govinda Swami
Unfortunately there is no Embassy for Kazakhstan in Australia so it is pretty hard for us to do anything. You can find more details at the website Palace of the Soul.
I just got the latest Diary from Indradyumna Swami. This is the second to latest. I'll wait till the new one is up on his site before posting it.
One may read Bhagavad-gita many times, but the philosophy can take years, or even lifetimes, to assimilate, and even a devotee may lament when he loses something or someone dear to him in this world. The day before I left India for America, I received an email from my dearest and most beloved friend, Sri Prahlada dasa...
